For Our Parents

RELATIONSHIP & PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

The School recognises that children responded most positively when they have the freedom to explore, sense and learn in their very own simple and special ways. Harmony Montessori only developed when the right place and environment was found.

Importance of Relationship with Parents / Carers

When parents and teachers work as partners, children do better in school and at home. With improved relationships & preparation:

  • Teachers can work with parents and use them as allies in promoting their children’s growth and development.
  • Staff learn to encourage parents to provide good learning environments at home for their children.

As School Staff form partnerships with children’s parents — everyone benefits:

  • parents expand their horizons by sharpening their own skills,
  • their children learn to like learning,
  • teachers affect children’s learning with less difficulty and behaviour problems,
  • and the entire community improves.

Induction / Familiarisation Day

Before the child starts with us, the parents and child will be invited to visit the nursery where there will be an opportunity to meet the staff, other children and interact with the environment.

This will help us get to know you and your child better. We will then discuss the settling-in procedure with you and provide a booklet – “All about me” which will need to be completed by you for the child. This is to help us ensure your child’s start is as happy as possible.

Settling-in-Policy (For Children & Parents)

The school operates a Montessori process to provide a smooth & happy transition where every child’s needs are dealt with individually.

This settling-in process is supported by the parent’s presence, involvement and continuous oversight role played by the Key persons.

Once the child has settled into a daily routine, they are introduced to basic ground rules of the school (Grace & Courtesy) depending upon the age and experience of the child. The child is then introduced to the different Activity areas.

Observations

Parental Observation is a valuable tool in enabling parents to gain a better understanding of how Montessori is meeting the development needs of their children.

This is best carried out once the child is well settled & emotionally independent.  This is usually when the child is over 3 years old.

It is our intention at Harmony Montessori to provide this opportunity for you as the Parent / Carer to observe the children in their daily routine at the nursery.
